Exhibition title: ana < > lineament < > muse
Artist: Martha Russo
Exhibition dates: October 23 – November 11, 2009
Exhibition space: Philip J. Steele Gallery
Martha Russo, a sculpture professor at RMCAD, has created new pieces specifically for an installation in the East Gallery. The work, featuring abstract, organic sculptures made up of porcelain “tendrils,” takes a cue from famed architect Gaudí and explores the ideas of identification, purpose and inspiration.
“My hope is that people approach my work and stay with it because they are not quite sure what it is,” Russo says. “[I want] to give people a place to let language and purpose slip away and to allow the senses to frolic, to ponder, to delight.”
